I have done exactly what you are talking about (as have several who posted here). (Mine is Southern Indiana Homes and Southern Indiana Real Estate as opposed to Louisville. All of the advice you have gotten is pretty good stuff.

Also consider putting the page that you want to rank in your nav bar. It will get more internal linkage that way as well as get traffic from folks who want to look specifically at that place.

You should be doing some deep linking into these types of pages in your site anyway IMO as part of your overall plan. I think John Allen provided a pretty good list of some popular ways to go about that.
