Colleen Lane Passes The Washington State Broker's Exam

Colleen LaneI'm excited for Colleen (and us) as she passed the Washington State Broker's Exam last week. This opens up all sorts of doors for us, one of which going out on our own. Kinda scary, but we've always been self-employed so we've traveled this road before. After being married to Colleen for 23 years, I still continue to be impressed by her (and love her all the more). Given the responsibilities of 5 children (er, the 6th being me, but we won't go there!), all at home, she finds the time to have a successful real estate career and make time for the many, many hours required to study for the brokers exam. Congratulations Colleen!

We're just starting on the social marketing thing. Yeah, kinda late to the party, however, you can read/follow more about Colleen:

That sounds exciting!  Looks like you are starting 2009 off in a great way.

I thought I saw Colleen's name on twitter, so is it Colleen or you, Joe, behind the screen name?

That is great news, My Wife just became our broker also. It is nice have everything going though use

I forgot, now it is time to go after some other states.

@Richard, Now to take on all that liability!

@Carolyn, "Screen name" as in Spoken Gently is both of us.  We both will blog here, but mostly me.  The social networking accounts are Colleen's.  She is using her name when possible.

@Mike, Thanks, but no thanks!  One state is all I can handle.  Actually, one city is all we can handle!

I was talking about us.

Gees Mike, isn't Texas one of the best states to be doing real estate these days?  Why bother with another state when you live in the largest state (by almost twice) in the continental U.S.

Thanks Wayne!

You have to be willing to grow, The slow time is the best time. I want to be in place when it turns around.

I here ya Mike, but Texas sure has enough potential business to keep you busy enough to not go after another state!  I've learned that I can only devote so much time to anything.  If I have too many pots on the fire than something gets burnt!

I'm going to be taking the broker exam soon. Any suggestions on what I should be studying? What did you use to study?

Posted 7 months ago

Hi Brooks,

Going through a preparation course is a must.  I cannot tell you how much useless information I had to memorize.  Useless information I've never needed, nor have needed since passing the exam.  A course will prepare you to study the right materials.  I used Rockwell: http://www.rockwellinstitute.com/asp/license_training/wa_real_estate_school.asp

Good luck,

Colleen
