Another Week into the Contest...More and More Contestants
Posted Feb 28, 2008 @ 2:46 pm, Viewed by 616 Visitors, Read 668 Times.I have taken the week off and not spent any real time with the contest in the last week as I have been quite busy with the actual real estate part of my job. That's a good thing. I've fallen back to 5th place in the contest in that week as I see lots of others have kept quite busy by participating in online blog discussions, writing articles and more. So, my strategy for the last week has been to watch and see what others are doing/have done and see if there is anything new to learn.
So far, it seems to be those who have strong domains to start with and adding some extra link pop to a post with the aforementioned methods. One entry however, has quite a different approach. Eric Blackwell has gone the 'team' route and it seems to be working well as he sits in 1st place and has been there all week.
So this is my take on what Eric has done and why he is outranking everyone else, including my entry for the greatest real estate agent in the world. It's one thing to ask everyone to 'team up' with you and create a mega link group, but, this is not how Eric has done it and it's why I think it's worth talking about. Eric definitely has many people helping him in the contest, but, it's why they are helping him that is worth taking a deeper look into. I know Eric pretty well and definitely consider him a friend. If I hadn't thrown my hat into the ring, I probably would be pointing my links to him as well and that's just the point. Through building strong relationships with people in various places around the worlds online, Eric has been able to have people volunteer to jump in the game on his team. That's a testament to all of the things that Eric does and has done prior to the contest. Whether it be voluntarily helping a new person and get them pointed in the right direction or volunteering his time to help moderate the REW forums, Eric is always around offering a helping hand. So, with that said, I think what I, and hopefully others, will take from this contest is that building true online relationships does pay dividends and creates very defensible SEO practices. After all, don't we all believe that the best links are the ones that are volunteered to us with the need to ask for them?
So the next time your sitting around looking at that competitor in front of you in the search engines, don't get mad. Don't go trying to get a cheap reciprocal link and don't go filing unsubstantiated spam reports. Go out and meet some people in areas of the web that you enjoy. Contribute to others and they will freely contribute back to you.

Best of luck Ryan, I'm rooting for you since I've dropped out.
Go get 'em
Don't drop out Jennifer! You have solid footing in multiple spots! Guess the buyers are showing up in Panama City like they are in Orange Beach! Go get em!
Jennifer, I hate to hear that. However, you are more than welcome to send me your link love
As for you Ryan, I'm hurt that I'm not your first choice. Where is the love. lol I"m starting to think that Eric guy must be a pretty cool.
Thanks thataway61 and FindCRE for your warm comments
But since Eric and Ryan have such a commanding lead, as well as everyone jumping on Erics team it's best that I concentrate on my new website and my customers.
And yes thataway61, we're very busy here lately. Condo sales are going through the roof and I'm looking for buyer specialists to join my team! Know anyone?
Besides, I'm keeping my webmaster - Jessie plenty busy with my business these days, without having to add additional promotional work. He's actually got a few more customers thanks to my ranking in the contest.
As for sharing the link love, I'd hate to alienate one person over an other. Eric certainly does not need it, Ryan is doing very well without it and it appears on my data centers, FindCRE you're coming into your own nicely as well.
Best of luck to everyone.
Ryan - as usual you are right on target! Its about the relationships. True online authority is built one relationship at a time.
This is one of the best posts regarding the contest. I thought I had some relationships built already with the people I'm teamed up with on TeamEric. But this has made those relationships even a little tighter. Not to mention that I am learning things I just didn't have the chance or time to learn on my own. That's what taking away from this contest. At first I wasn't going to join in any capacity. Boy, would I have lost out if I had passed this opportunity by.
Thanks guys. As some of you know, I learned the hard way with a 60 day penalty from Google that there are good and bad ways to get rankings. It was during the penalty when I really got into blogging and trying to build relationships online. Since then, I have not only become a better blogger, but, a better real estate agent for it. I think that building relationships is always the best approach - online and off.
Ryan; Very kind of you to write this. Yes, you are a friend and of course I would have loved to have you on our team. But I can also think of no one I'd rather compete with. If you win, I will be totally happy as well. You have a terrific site that you have built and you have built it the right way... Kudos @Richard--too funny. After the contest WE need to hang out some too! Eric
@ Eric, indeed buddy! As long as you don't mind me spanking that behind. lol
Eric is a great guy and always seems to be willing to take the time needed to help anyone that asks. He has earned a more then a little good will.
Good Will! The greatest asset an individual or company can have. An intangible that is difficult to quantify but which will carry one far! Ken is right, Eric has earned more than a little Good Will in the Real Estate community through his positive words and actions.

Very well written as always Ryan. Glad things have gotten busy - they have in Orange Beach too!
