Creating Featured Listings With WordPress
Posted Aug 19, 2007 @ 10:34 am, Viewed by 1104 Visitors, Read 1137 Times.I have searched and searched without success to find a plugin to transform a WordPress blog page into a user friendly way to showcase lisitngs. Until now. It took me about three hours to get it to look right so this will be a tutorial to save time for you if you like it. Before you bother going to far in your reading, take a look at this blog post I created using this plugin to advertise my Brookhaven townhome for sale.
So if you like it here is what you will need:
- FTP access to your WordPress blog
- The slideshow plugin
- Follow the instructions to upload and activate the plugin
O.K. That's the easy part so here is where I will save you some time. This is how my installation went based on a width of 500 pixels for my content box. You may need to adjust based on your width.
- Create a new post on your blog and name it whatever you like - Since this is a post about your listing, use an appropriate description.
- In your CMS, go to "Manage", "Posts". Make a note of the post ID as seen below.
- Go to "Options", "Gallery" and make sure your options are checked like this:
Now, go to your computer and pick the eight photos you would like to use for your slideshow (you can use more or less).
- Resize your images to a width of 325 pixels and place them in a new folder and givei it a good name.
- Create a zip file. Hover over the new folder, right click, send to, compressed folder.
- In your CMS, go to "Manage", "Gallery"
You should be here:
Click the first button, Create Gallery from zipfile of images.
Use these settings:
Click "Save"
You will now see your current galery. Click "Edit". Use these settings:
.jpg)
Don't change the size information until you view the post to see what it looks like...
At this point you should be live with your slideshow. Now just type your descriptions and information about the listing in your wysiwyg and post your entry.
You now have a slideshow featured listing for a listing on your WordPress blog.
Edit:
I wanted to add a bit more to this post as you can do a little bit more with the slideshow..
Go to "manage", then "Gallery"...Click the button that says "Create/View/Edit Image Collection" You should now be taken to a page which has all of your photos from the gallery. If you click the "edit" button here, you can add a subtitle to each picture in the slideshow, followed by a description.
Good luck!

Ryan,
The listing looks great, but it's not what I was looking for. Thumbs up for the link in the beginning, it saved me some time, I just wish news outlets would pick the practice up!
