Finally! Back from the Middle of the Pack!

This will be a short post, but, I am just so relieved that my website has finally returned from the penalty levied by Google. I have learned a valuable lesson that will not be forgotten.

Never again will I engage in reciprocal linking schemes set out with the sole intention of gaining improved ranks in the search results. I made some improvements to my Atlanta real estate website since I had the extra time. One feature that I am excited about is the addition of Google maps to all of the city pages and I also learned how to use the snippets in the REW backend so I lightened up the code a bit which will help users because the site loads faster than before. I still have a few more things to do with the snippets before I'm finished, but it also removed some duplicate code that was found on all of my pages so hopefully the SE's wioll like that as well. Anyways, I'm off to enjoy my first stress free Sunday morning in some time!

I am REALTOR® serving the North Atlanta Real Estate Market including Alpharetta, Buckhead, Chastain Park, Dunwoody, East Cobb, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Milton and John's Creek. Great job Ryan! It's great to see consumer friendly real estate sites actually owned by a real estate agent in the area they service do well.

Congrats Ryan! I'm so happy we are all back. Now we can get back to moving forward, rather than recovery mode.

Good to hear things are going better with the SERPs. Would you mind sharing what you have learned on the snippets?

Hi Scott. The snippets are lot easier than I thought and they should help me because I have pulled some duplicate content off of the pages and into the snippets. Basically, they work by calling up the information from somewhere other than the page itself. Look at the featured listing here: http://www.ryanwardrealestate.com/brookhaven-real-estate.php Halfway down the page in the middle is a listing. The html is a table and it was being used on multiple pages. I copied the code into a snippet and called it #brookhaven#, or something like that. Now, wherever I want to use it, I just type in #brookhaven# and it appears on the page. This lightens the code because the SE's won't read it and since it was in multiple places it removes dup content. I did the same thing with the three buttons as well so all the SE's see is relevant text on the page now. The page loads faster as well for those with speed slower than dsl...

Brilliant, Ryan. I especially like the idea of mitigating SE content bloat programmatically by calling snippets within pages. Since #snippet# cannot be followed by SE, your duplicate content is no foul. I would like to know more about your button and map code, as I have none at this time. We should start a thread in Coding forum to exchange snippet tips.

Good Idea! I fixed the spelling! I also allow turned the comments back on on my other blogs.
