Optimizing Avatar Images

Looking to optimize your avatar image from the first pic to the second pic?

If you have Photoshop (click Download Free Trial), you may find this tutorial useful:

This tutorial also applies to most image editing software out there.

I would suggest creating a new canvas (File»New) 60px in width, 60px in height, then copying your avatar image right onto that.  By hitting Ctrl+T you can transform the image, and by holding Shift while dragging the corners you can resize the image proportionally.  Then use the arrow tool to move it to where you want it placed within the 60x60 canvas.  Smaller images lose a bit of clarity due to image resizing so a quick sharpening doesn't hurt either.  That will make your avatar image look crisp and professional.  When you are done, save the file for the web!  (File»Save for Web)  And upload it through REW Blogs.
