Wham Mobile text messaging technology to view homes for sale

A couple of weeks ago I signed up to try a new technology product offered by Wham Mobile that has an exclusive agreement in Southern California with Prudential California Realty. The technology offers a wireless mobile web page (or WAP -  Wireless Application Protocol) that is internet formatted to fit on a cell phone screen. For a specific property that is listed for sale, the information and property photo is sent as a mobile real estate flyer (or electronic flyer) that users are able to view on their cell phones by clicking the link that is sent via a text message.

This technology may replace the need to put a property flyer in a flyer box.  A potential home buyer will no longer have to jump out of their car to pick up a flyer or have to call the agent to get more information. Instead, when they are in front of the property, they simply use their cell phone to get an electronic flyer that can be stored on their cell phone. Or, they can jot the number down and text message at a later time. Here is an example of a sign rider that is put with the property for sale sign. Each property is assigned different number after the letter prefix that is unique to each realtor.

Give it a try to view this San Clemente home for sale:

1. Text PRU1 to 555999 on your cell phone.
2. You will receive the first message wih the address, price and basic information.
3. You can then request more information by clicking on the link and replying yes.
4. You will then receive detailed property information (click for pics), photo, map link and contact information. 

It's very intuitive and as easy to use as that!

With an estimated 257 million wireless subscribers in the U.S. alone, who send an average of 1 billion text messages per day, many of them are using advanced systems where email, web, photos, videos and text messages keep them connected with all aspects of daily life. Some forecast that within the next 5 to 10 years, all mobile users will have these types of capabilities.

Is this a useful way for potential buyers to initially view property? Will this technology replace paper flyers placed in front of the property?
