With The Right Attitude, Real Estate Can Make You Rich

What exactly is it that separates the wealthy from the rest of us?  This is an essential question that isn't asked nearly often enough. On first considering the question, you may be tempted to give answers such as, "Having wealthy parents" or "Winning the lottery" or even "Working at a cushy, high-paying job." Indeed, anyone in any of the aforementioned circumstances can count his or herself among the very lucky.

The bad news for those lucky people is that being in those circumstances is no guarantee of wealth. In fact, according to Robert Kiyosaki, author of the Rich Dad book series, it isn't about how much money you bring in, but how much money you keep that determines how wealthy you are.

Kiyosaki's father, the so-called "Poor Dad," is a great example of a well educated man blessed with a great career who was nonetheless poor, because he couldn't seem to keep any of the money he was earning.

Fortunately for you, the circumstances of your life, such as the family into which you are born or the salary you receive at your job, are not what will determine whether or not you become rich.  Being wealthy depends on internal factors, not external circumstances.

The real key to becoming right, is the way in which you think about money.  It's as simple as that.

Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad" used a graph entitled the Cash Flow Quadrant to explain this principle, separating people into four groups. 'E's and 'S's, or employees and those who are self-employed, occupy one half of the graph. 'B's and 'I's, or businesspeople and investors were on the other. Robert Kiyosaki claimed that, in addition to representing the source of a person's cash flow, these categories served as a window into how different type of people think about money.

Are you beginning to see? The people in the four quadrants are not there by chance; they are there because they experience life in fundamentally different ways.

"The four people in the four quadrants are four totally different people," Kiyosaki says in his book "Cash Flow Quadrant." "The four people found in the four different quadrants are different mentally as well as emotionally."

Because of individuals' innate natures, says Kiyosaki, they are drawn to different corners of the graph.  This is because different people have different values, and will treat money differently based on these attitudes.  A  person who values security above other things will definitely be drawn to the 'E' corner of the graph, and the consistency is offers.  There's nothing wrong with that-- if security truly is what you desire, a life spent as an employee will be satisfying and fulfilling.  It is worth noting, however, that it is highly unlikely that an occupant of the 'E' corner will ever become truly rich.

It sounds a little scary at first, but this is actually good news for you. It's good news because it means that, if you want to get rich, all you have to do is start thinking more like the people who live in the I, or investors, quadrant.

One of the best things you can invest in is real estate. That is what Kiyosaki's rich dad did, and it made him...well, rich. In order to think like a real estate investor, simply tell your money that you are through working for it. It is time for your money to get to work for you.

That's actually true for any profession. It's all about attitude. Now is a great time to get in the "I" quadrant. We have several friends and clients whom we hooked up with bank owned properties and are getting, at the very least, a 10% return on their money. CDs get you about 3 to 4% these days. Great POST. Thanks

I totally agree with you Alexandria. Attitude makes all the difference in the world. Have you read the book The Secret? The entire premise is that we bring about what we think about. Our whole world is basically a bunch of self fulfilling prophecies. It is so important that we stay positive with all of the negative media surrounding our industry right now. I appreciate your post!
