Property Tax Hike Likely For Canton, GA
Overtaxed, underpaid, overworked…here we go again! The City of Canton is currently considering an increase in City property taxes – the first increase in 20 years! The proposed 2010 fiscal year budget calls for an increase slightly less than 1 mill – from 5.95 mills to 6.8 mills. The increase is proposed to try and offset a decline in city revenue and help keep the City of Canton above water with their finances.
What does this mean to you? Well, on a $200,000 home, your taxes would increase by approximately $65. Not too bad, you say, but don’t forget taxes will increase on top of that because of the demise of Homestead Exemption. Since we will not get the Homestead Exemption anymore, for the same price home your taxes will increase another $55 (based off…

After the overwhelming number of complaints received by the City of Canton over making Heritage and Boling Parks “passive” parks, Canton has unveiled a plan for a new, $7 million “active” park. The new park will be located across the Etowah from Heritage Park at the end of Brown Industrial Drive. The 59-acre site promises 6 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, 3 dual-use football / soccer fields, 4 full-sized baseball / softball fields, and 2 youth baseball fields. There will also be permanent restrooms open spaces to run around and toss the Frisbee, picnic areas, and paved pathways along the Etowah River.
Sounds great, right? Now all Canton needs is the $7 million it will take to construct the park...
The City of Canton has requested the money to come…

It’s summertime…the kids are bored, they’re tired of the pool, they don’t want to be stuck inside staring at each other anymore, and you’re trying to think of something economical to keep them entertained. You think, Aha! Let’s take a picnic lunch to the park! We’ll take a football or Frisbee and the kids can run around playing catch with each other while we munch on watermelon and sandwiches. What a perfect afternoon! Well…not so perfect if that park you are planning on taking them to is in the City of Canton. This past April, Canton’s City Council voted to enforce the municipal ordinance that makes the parks “passive” parks instead of “active” parks…Huh??? That’s right, folks, City of Canton parks now require anyone wishing to “picnic, party, host a…

City of Canton, GA
“Where Metro Meets the Mountains” is the fitting slogan of Cherokee County, with Canton being the heart of the growing part of Atlanta. Located about 40 miles north of downtown Atlanta, Canton offers the best of both worlds to her townsmen. From rural country areas, to the peaceful Blue Ridge Mountain foothills, to the lively metropolis of Riverstone Parkway, Canton has a little bit of everything to keep everyone happy.
Canton offers both fine and casual dining, and every fare you can think of. One of my favorite Canton restaurants is the Downtown Kitchen, located in Historic Canton. They have a terrific menu and live entertainment in their upstairs area. Canton has endless shopping opportunities, a movie theatre, bowling alley, parks…
