Fort Myers Versus Sarasota and the Fight for the Red Sox
Posted Oct 7, 2008 @ 6:39 pm, Viewed by 160 Visitors, Read 165 Times. The Red Sox took the first two games from the Angels in Round 1 of the Playoffs. Tonight is Game 3 at Fenway Park in Boston. That the Red Sox will win Round I is almost inevitable now. Do the Angels have even a miniscule change of wining two games against the Sox at Fenway. I say no.

The fact that the Red Sox are on their way to another championship year fuels the fight in Florida. I think there has been enough ambiguity. The Sox need to make their decision and announce it. Are they going to stay in Fort Myers? And, if not, are they going to stay in Lee County at least, or go to Sarasota, as feared.
Does Sarasota have more to offer than Fort Myers? Let's examine it. Downtown Sarasota has a beautiful harbor, the Ritz Carlton, an art community. Fort Myers has the River District, a new 67-room Hotel Indigo to be part of the scene this winter. Also, Fort Myers has its own art community. There are 11 galleries downtown. Sarasota has Siesta Key and the beach bordering its city. Fort Myers has Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel and their respective beaches bordering its city. I guess we can go tit for tat, but obviously, both cities have a lot to offer. I think the Red Sox organization needs to ask a second question, as well. Should they abandon Fort Myers, their adoring fans, the city officials and business people who have spent years of time and effort into making Fort Myers the spring home of the Red Sox?
