New Craigslist Scam Targets Renters, Using Realtors

A new scam which targets Renters has cropped up on Craigslist.  Only this time, they are using Realtor photos and information to get to the potential victims.  After posting an awesome home for sale in lawrenceville, I too became a "victim" of this practice.

Using some common sense along with some indicators and you can avoid these scammers too.

  1. If there is no contact information other than the craigslist e-mail, it's likely worth avoiding.  Thinking about it, any self respecting Realtor who actually knows to put the ad on Craigslist in the first place will have their contact information on the ad.  For Sale By Owners will typically not have as much information, but they should have their phone number on there.
  2. If the response you get from the ad mentions the UK or Africa... RUN.
  3. If the response has misspellings of common words, such as "(selling) salling" or "(didn't) dint" there's a good chance this is some sort of scam.
  4. Any mention of medical conditions... good chance it's scam.
  5. LAST BUT NOT LEAST

IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.... IT PROBABLY IS!
