Morris Township Mayor Backs Traffic Cameras

photo James Boyer

Morris Township Mayor Robert Nace said the overwhelming majority of residents he's spoken to support the idea of installing cameras at intersections to catch drivers who speed through red lights.

Many may not like the Big Brother side of this solution to a supposed problem.  Putting the cameras in at traffic intersections allows the government to track the public's movements and record the times that people come and go.  All of this done using our own hard earned money.

Is this what Morris Township or other New Jersey towns need to be spending money on??

I think that Morris Township Mayor Nace, who happens to be my neighbor is headed down the wrong road on this one.  My understanding is that Mayor Nace is a Republican, I wish he would take up some of…

Morristown Council Trying Again To Give Mayor A Raise.

photo James Boyer

Once again the Morristown town council is once again trying to give Mayor Donald Cresitello a pay raise.  The council has started a new petition in which 5 percent of Morristown's registered voters needed to sign the petition in order for the question to be placed on the ballot.

Many feel that the $6000 a year pay increase for a part-time mayor in a town which claims to be cash strapped is out of line.  $6000 would amount to a 23% pay increase as compared to the Morristown public employees who have been getting 3% raises each year.

Much of Morristown's budget comes from property taxes which are trending to be about 40% higher than surrounding Morris Township property taxes.  The pay raise being sought for the Morristown Mayor is important because once it…

Morris Township Government Seeking More Of The Public's Money

photo James Boyer

Morris Township Officials are trying to do a online petition to get the State of New Jersey to enact new laws to allow Morris Township to install remote camaras and issue speeding tickets based on those camaras.

"As your constituents, we are respectfully asking your help to deal with a significant impairment of our 'Quality of Life' in the Garden State -- excessive speeding on our roads," the petition reads. "We urge you to introduce and enact legislation that would permit local law enforcement agencies to use photo-radar equipment to identify speeders and issue summonses that can be enforced."

This seems to be more of a intrusion of our lives.  What is to prevent local towns from monitoring and tracking the public's movements.  Can't the township…
