Morristown NJ City Budget Politics

Morristown NJ Mayor Donald Cresitello plans to introduce the same $37.8 million budget which the city council has rejected.  The Morristown City council rejected this budget just a few weeks ago because as they said, Mayor Cresitello's budget included big tax increases.

Morristown Mayor Cresitello believes he has already cut the budget enough and that the taxpayers of Morristown should just deal with another 4.5% tax increase.  Any further cuts beyond the current cuts the Mayor has offered would be draconian.

To be fair, I don't know the details of the Morristown NJ city budget, but Morristown just like most New Jersey towns has a big budget problem and that problem is only getting worse each year.  A big part of that problem is the retirement and pension plans these towns have to pay.  The more long term public employees these towns have the worse this problem is going to be in the long term.

Local Mayors in towns like Morristown need to understand that it is long past time to get these budgets totally under control.  The longer these people fight and delay the inevitable the worse the problem is going to be.
