The prestigious and luxurious Kenwood neighborhood can be found just outside of NW Washington DC in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Although the community was originally founded as a farm during the 18th century, it has since grown to be one of the finest and most expensive neighborhoods in the Washington, D.C. area. In fact, homes here typically range in price from $2 million all the way up to $15+ million dollars.
Although Kenwood is home to numerous luxury homes as well as the exclusive Kenwood Country Club, it is best known for the hundreds of Cherry Blossom Trees that line its streets. With an estimated 1,200 Japanese cherry trees blooming each spring, visitors flock to the area to catch a glimpse of their spectacular beauty.
Ironically, the Cherry Blossom trees called the Kenwood neighborhood "home" before any people did. The long story short is the Kennedy-Chamberlain Development Company, which purchased the land in 1927, was so taken aback by the Cherry Blossoms growing around the Tidal Basin (in DC) that the company planted them before construction commenced on the homes. Smart move!
Since the Kenwood community was considered "far" from D.C. at the time it was built, the developers also decided to build the Kenwood Golf course within the neighborhood. As an added bonus, anyone who purchased a lot or a home within the community received a free membership to the Kenwood Country Club. Today, the country club is open to membership by recommendation and invite only.
Kenwood is now home to about 300 homes, most of which are large, two-story brick home estates. But as one may expect, there are also a fair share of new builds, and even a few true stone mansions.
Thanks to the active civic association that is present within the Kenwood community, numerous social events take place for Kenwood residents each year. Thanks to the neighborhood's great location, residents can also enjoy easy access to the popular Friendship Heights shopping district as well as several other malls, shops and restaurants.
Residents of Kenwood also enjoy the many services that are provided by the self-governing municipality. These include snow removal, leaf collection and trash and recycling services. The town is also actively involved in tree planting as well as maintaining the streets and sidewalks that run throughout each of its neighborhoods.
If you're looking for an extraordinary neighborhood in the the DC Metro area, Kenwood would surely fit the bill.

Thanks Jolenta, it's kinda like parts of Shorewood Hills (except no lakes!)...that dense, mature tree-lined neighborhood. But the lots in Kenwood tend to be huge (for close-in DC suburbs standards). There's nothing on the market right now that fits that true Mansion profile but I'll show you some pics when one comes on. They're amazing.
Thanks again and talk to you soon...

Hey Kev, Sounds a bit like Nakoma or even The Highlands. Be well, Jolenta

Sounds fab! I would love to see those cherry blossoms in bloom sometime, let alone visit one of Kenwood's authentic stone mansions!
