Site Seduction, Gulf Coasts, Twitter, and “Storms” Oh My!

What a post Thanksgiving week. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone by the way. I hope all had their fair share of turkey, friends, and family (or any combination there-of).

In the spirit of holidays, typically times of reflection, I wanted to share some recent real estate and technology musings -- just some smart ideas, questions, and tools (none of mine of course!) So bear with me...

GulfShoresLife!

It’s only appropriate to start an REW post with REW-related chatter. Seems like the theme of the week has been the importance of making a seductive website :-) Get your minds out of the gutter and hear me out. I’m referring to the importance of designing a website you can “sell with senses”. The venerable Eric Blackwell hits on this topic in a recent EricOnSearch post here. Of course, when the subject of design comes up, one can’t help but take notice of the REW’s Limited Edition Custom (LEC) 2.0 (example here). Congrats to Carolyn Gjerde-Tu, the Davis Real Estate maven, for two wonderful posts here and here that speaks to the LEC 2.0, and another triumph in REW design GulfShoresLife.com, owned by Cal Carter, the maestro of Gulf Shore Condos.

I’ve referred to this "Knox" Quote before because I love it. But it’s fitting in describing the above mentioned content...

"Design is...a process, taking visual, linear, lateral and creative thinking. More often than not it takes humility and an eagerness to learn, to risk and to grow while the world grows with us."

…So congrats and thank you to Morgan, aka “the SEO Guy”, aka “Coach” and to the REW Crew for this “eagerness to grow”. Congrats to Carolyn for the LEC 2 purchase!; and congrats to Cal: from the home page, to local page, to the Fort Morgan Condos page, and everywhere in between, I can smell the beach!

A Quick Twitter “Apps” and “Mash-Up” Break

  • Tweetsgiving was an incredible example of how much “good” can be accomplished using some grass roots social media.
  • Xpenser - document expenses, billable mileage...using Twitter? Not a bad idea :-)
  • Another cool Twitter-based app, Twitzu, an event/product promotional platform has some real potential IMHO...it’s worth a peak.

Blackberry "Storms" in the Forecast?

I’m still going to give one a go but they really went through with the whole no WiFi thing?...Seriously? And Verizon's official statement?...

"WiFi would add bulk, cost and is a drain on a battery so when we looked at that in context of our nationwide 3G network, we chose not to include Wi-Fi."

Memo to Verizon, normally smart to do a little market research before multi-million dollar marketing campaigns and product roll-out. I guess they’re relying on fools like me who are easily smitten by slick interfaces...there I go, getting seduced again...

Kevin nice post of what's been going on this week.

Any reason you'ld get the storm over an iphone?  Just curious, I have a treo because I use it as my lockbox key but I feel a little left out because most of my clients seem to have iphones.

Carolyn...time to Hack Verizon

Kevin - great post! Let us know what you think of the BB Storm. Canadian Telcoms are promising product "in time for Christmas", but they're running out of shopping days.

Hey Jim!..thank you and definitely will do.  If I were smart and a little less impulsive, I'd wait for Verizon/Rim to come to their senses and come out with a WiFi compatible  version.  I played around with it at the Verizon store and it's solid, sleek, and fun.  BUT, by no means is it anything close to the "iPhone killer" it was being touted earlier on.  If you can go iPhone, I'd do it  Perhaps when I buy it, I'll write a quick review for REWers.  Great to hear from you and I'll keep you apprised for sure...
