A Sarasota Association of Realtors - SARjacking Update

So (SAR) - a.k.a. "Screw Area Realtors" - has not only hijacked Marc Rasmussen’s former website; now they are redirecting HIS links to their own site, thus giving them the benefit of Marc’s thousands of hours of work.

Sarasota Association of Realtors (SAR) Hypocrisy

Please read this recent post from John Allen – it’s a note-worthy piece that may give a little more insight into the motivations of The Sarasota Association of Realtors (SAR) domain theft and consequent link pillaging.

John talks about the Sarasota Association of Realtors (SAR) developing their own website called Time2BuySarasota.com – even though they were aware of John’s own TRADEMARKED site, www.BuySarasota.com

Time2 Get Real, SAR CEO!

John also pointed out that that the SAR CEO “has been quoted in several blogs and social networking websites” (regarding Marc’s case) that "in the best interest of the membership of SAR and of the public, SAR [must] protect its rights in the trademark." Hmmm....maybe Time2LookInTheMirror.

Sarasota Association of Realtors (SAR) Assumptions?

Would it be unfair to conclude that:

  • There is a pattern of SAR “stealing” the hard work from its own members for publicity?
  • SAR seems “guilty” of the same “violations” that “allowed” them to hijack Marc’s site, and steal his links.

Sarasota Association of Realtors (SAR) Question?

Why steal the links when you already killed the website? Marc created, nurtured, and maintained these links through TENS OF THOUSANDS of hours. So why not simply allow him to re-direct HIS links (that, again, you have now stolen) to his “compliant” Sarasota Real Estate website. If you were really protecting the public with this move, what are you doing with all the internet inquiries from people who are now ending up in your lap? Are you providing them with information about properties in the Sarasota area, as Marc was doing? If not, then you are clearly not providing a service?  And, if not, it seems that the only reason for the re-direct was to, yet again, punish one of your own members whose only real “violation” appears to be his tremendous success.

Vicki,

Thank you!  And yes, continuing to "make noise" -- well crafted "noise" that is -- is the way we can make change...
