Historic Southwood Park situated on the South side of Fort Wayne has a little bit everything for everyone. The neighborhood was first developed at the end of World War I, from land that had been originally owned by Miami Chief Jean Baptiste Richardville. With a park like atmosphere in mind local Fort Wayne Realtors and developers envisioned tree lined boulevards, winding streets and stylish unique homes. Southwood Park has varied architectural styles including craftsman, prairie, Spanish revival, tudor and many more. These homes can range in size from the massive 5000 sq ft mansions along Old Mill Rd to the 1500 sq ft tudors along Indiana, Beaver and South Wayne Avenue. Over the course of the last few years I have noticed the trend of first time home buyers buying up properties in this historic neighborhood. This new trend has brought new life to this old gem o a neighborhood. One of the many nice aspects to Southwood Park is its proximity to Foster Park. Foster Park is one of Fort Wayne's oldest parks and offers both a 18 hole golf course and several public tennis courts. In addition it also offers a pleasant place to exercise, get some fresh air, picnic, or admire the beautiful flower gardens, which are a annual favorite of newly weds and prom goers for pictures.

The South side of Fort Wayne has seen its share of ups and downs. I am proud to proclaim that the South side of Fort Wayne is making a comeback. With the revitalization of downtown Fort Wayne and the emergence of new shopping opportunities at the old South Town mall location all gives incentives to young buyers to stay on the South side. The Southwood Park home owners association has made great strides within the last few years to help preserve both the historic aspects of this neighborhood, as well as help uphold the home values. Some of the changes are that no one is allowed to rent, lease, or rent to own a property within Southwood Park. The association has also successfully brought national attention to their community through being listed with the National Registration of Historic Places. The association holds weekly meeting and encourages input from its members.

For those of you looking for a great place to buy on the South side of Fort Wayne please look no further then Southwood Park. The pride of homeownership in this neighborhood is second to none. It is hard to drive through the neighborhood without seeing the residents planting flowers, cutting their grass, putting a fresh coat of paint on their historic home, or people enjoying the peaceful park like neighborhood setting from the comfort of their front porch. I have been a proud resident of Southwood Park for the past 5 years, and don't plan on leaving anytime soon.
