Blues on the Green

"The Live Music Capital of the World." That's what Austin, Texas is best known for. Every other Wednesday evening during the summer Zilker Park becomes the mecca for all Austin music lovers. Blankets are spread out, families are relaxing, people are dancing, and everyone is having fun as they all listen to the great musicians that are playing. For eighteen summers, 107.1 KGSR has sponsored Blues On the Green, Austin's largest free concert series. The shows are held every other wednesday from June 11th through August 22nd from 7:30 - 9:30pm.

The stage is set so that all who come out to hear the music (even the thousands that are usually in attendance) can all see, hear, and enjoy the show, because the outdoor stage faces Town Lake and allows plenty of grassy seating room for all. All music fans are welcome to bring their own food and drinks (just no alcohol or glass allowed) or quench their thirst and feed their appetite with the food, water, and tea available for purchase from local Austin restaurants that are on-site. Music lovers are also encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to make seating more comfortable and enjoyable.

Parking is available under the MoPac Bridge off of Stratford Drive. The fee is $3, but that money goes to the park for maintenance and upkeep. Don't forget to bring your dog (on a leash of course) to enjoy the great music with you. Blues On the Green is a great event for the solo music lover, couples, and families alike. Good food and drinks, a relaxing atmosphere, hanging out with friends, and listening to great music. What else could you ask for to make a wonderfully enjoyable evening? Come hang out and listen.
