The Third Ward is surrounded on three sides by a river bluff. To the East and South of the Third Ward, that bluff is part of Putnam Park, a 105-acre state wildlife preserve located in the heart of the city. Little Niagara Creek runs through
Because of its natural beauty and its proximity to the university, the Third Ward is a very desirable neighborhood. It also doesn’t hurt that the Third Ward probably has the highest concentration of historic homes of any neighborhood in the city. Nineteenth-century lumber magnates seemed to favor the neighborhood, and many of their homes remain intact or have been restored.
But there is a wide array of homes in the Third ward, from 3-story, 4000+ square foot mansions like the one pictured above to 2-bedroom bungalows. There have even been several new homes built in the last year. If you are interested in historic homes in a neighborhood that is centrally located to UW-EC and downtown, check out the Third Ward!
