Coppel Real Estate: It's Growing Literally!

A lot of DFW cities claim to be “community-oriented,” “charming,” and “family-friendly.”  In fact, many Coppell real estate sites boast of Coppell’s value as a bedroom community in the suburbs of DFW.  But where’s the evidence?  In Coppell, the proof is in the petunias.

Coppell has roots as a farming village.  It grew rapidly into a commuter town after the construction of DFW airport, and today some 35,000 people call Coppell home.  One local group, however, is keeping the town’s origins alive by spreading some green. 

The Coppell Community Garden Organization is taking big steps to keep things fresh in Coppell.  The group’s mission is ”to cultivate a healthy community, where the community gardens, farmers market, and sustainable education promote social, nutritional, and environmental benefits.”  You’d be hard pressed to find a cause more community-oriented than that. 

So what is this garden group doing to accomplish this noble task?

For starters, they’ve planted and maintained community gardens within the city.  These areas are sites for raised flower and vegetable beds as well as compost mounds and native fruit trees.  All gardens are maintained without chemicals. 

DFW residents or groups can adopt plots in the gardens, and the fruits and vegetables produced are donated to the Metrocrest Social Services food pantry, where they are distributed to families in need by dedicated volunteers.  So far this year, donations have exceeded 7,000 pounds of fresh foods.

Since 2003, the Coppell Farmers Market has served to promote healthy living, and healthy relationships, in the Metrocrest area.  Local growers and purveyors of specialty foods participate in this weekly nod to the town’s farming history, which also boosts Coppell’s local economy.

The Coppell Community Garden Organization takes many opportunities throughout the year to educate local residents about healthy and responsible consumption.  The group’s website also provides gardening tips and links to local resources.

It’s pretty clear that Coppell is growing in terms of much more than real estate.
