Social Networking and The Future of Real Estate

We all know there are thousands of Social Networks available to us on the internet, in fact there are some sites that will even let you create and start your own like Ning.  So the question is, which one's should you be on if you're in the Real Estate Industry?  I think the answer is simple, it's the ones you have time to manage and build relationships on.

With networks like MySpace, Facebook, and LinkedIn, there are some awesome opportunities to establish a great repoire and deploy some fantastic marketing and advertising strategies and campains.  ActiveRain is the largest and fastest growing Social Network in the Real Estate Industry, with nearly 100,000 members.
They just launched their Localism 2.0 platform which is being coined as "The Worlds Greatest Neighborpedia!"

Are there other networks that are available online?  Here's a list of hundreds that you might want to look at and consider.  Why?  Because they're very active, and their member counts are incredible, in some cases 30,000,000 people or more....

Take a look for yourself and see which ones pop out that you might want to investigate.  Social Networks continued...

Hi Active Brad!

Quite a list there. Personally, I've been leaning towards special interest social networking groups (non-real estate related) based on my interests. In other words, not just joining social networking groups just to join them.

I've always enjoyed the business gained from being active in alumni or charity organizations in real life -- it's no different in the online world IMO.

Thanks for the list to review!

Paul - I would agree. The Real Estate Networks are great for sharing ideas, challenges and hopefully, even some referral business, but it's the BallRoom Dancing Network with 30,000 members online that I think more should be dancing in.  Ning has quite a few diffent social groups and I know there are Thousands more out there.

I saw a group where people are discussing their paintings and antique wall hangings that run between 25,000 - 500,000 dollars.  I'd think networking there might be a great idea.  I do know localism powered by AR is going after that same vision, only direct with the Real World communities and neighbors. Great concept if you ask me. Thanks for popping by, enjoy your surf.

Brad,

I like the fact that you mentioned go with the networks you have time to manage. I don't think anyone can focus on them all for sure.

I would also add that if you have more friends or associates in one network then in the other you should start there. I know that I started with linkedin and continue to do so because that is where all the people that I used to work with prior to real estate had profiles and where they networked.

Thanks for the list and information.

Joseph - that's a great point and well taken.  I think we all migrate naturally back to those sites and networks where we are comfortable and where we cut our teeth, but eventually, we sprout wings and start to investigate and adventure out into the cyber blogoshere of Social Networks.

Somehow, we always have tendencies to come back and hang out where our roots began and where we feel most at home.  I'm like you when it comes to the network I started on, but I'm here now too, why?  Expansion is a necessity for success.  Excellent comment, thanks!

Brad,

You are right we definitely need to push our limits and to expand. That is a good reason to try networks that we aren't familiar with or even comfortable with to start.

@Brad ~ Good to see you kicking around at REW. I think that the key is to settle in on a couple of social networks and stick to them. The value of social networks is meeting people and learning from others. It is easy to get spread too thin by participating in several social networks.

Plus, most of us have day jobs that somewhat restrict our time

@Joey - like my mother used to always tell me, try it, you might like it, not to mention it may be healthier for you.  lol~  Thanks.

@Ryan - good to see you kicking around the cyber world as well.  Time is a valuable commodity these days, and where it's spent should be every Social Networkers priority. Great to hear from you, keep in touch my friend.
